News Photos RTD West Line Progress - 14 Jan 2012

The new RTD West Line light rail route, built over top of the old Denver & Inter-Mountain right of way. Once electric interurban operations ceased, the line was taken over by the Associated Railways - a partnership between the AT&SF, C&S, and D&RGW. So yes, this is Grande-related.

Denver's Regional Transportation District (better known as RTD) purchased the line in 1989 when it was abandoned to preserve it for future use. That future came in 2009, when construction started on the West Line. Projected for opening in 2013, the corridor is nearing operability, with most track and stations in place and gaps in the catenary rapidly closing.

Saturday, 14 Jan 2012, was just such a nice day I couldn't stay in the house. I decided to go see how construction was coming along. Here's the results

Another look at Garrison St. Unlike most of the stations, which have a center platform, this one has platforms on the sides because it's constrained by the streets on both sides.

The West Line climbing to cross over US Hwy 6 on the former Federal Center branch. And this ends our tour of the former Associated Railways right of way. From the Federal Center to Golden, the line follows an all-new right of way.
