By the summer of 1976, the 5355 was looking well used as it exits the Moffat Tunnel at Winter Park.

With the Continental Divide providing the backdrop, X5381 meets the 5367W caboose hop at Fraser siding. As evidenced in this photo, the SD40T2 era is well established by this time.

Laboring upgrade at Winter Park the 5381, 5350 and 5364 urge their eastbound onward. This mixed consist train was probably #134, normally a hotshot that did on occasions get a head end fill of coal out of Grand Junction.

The coal on the head end of the 5381E was loaded into 29 of D&RGW's 70 ton hoppers, adding up to just over 2000 tons.

The 3108 and 3078 apply their combined 6,000 horsepower to the rear of 5381E. Intermodal business from UPS and other shippers can be seen ahead of the caboose.

A cloudy summer afternoon in 1977 finds the 5353 and four other tunnel motors dragging the 738 train juggrade at Winter Park. This train often ran in two sections from Helper and still regularly featured 4 axle units on the head end.
