Nope, 261 isn't involved today, but this was the scene first thing on Friday morning, 15-Sep-2006. They'd just put the whole thing together on a single track for the night, I guess.

It doesn't really add much to the story, but I just liked this particular glint shot with the flag in the background, high atop the Modern Woodmen building

After moving 261 over by a track, the two QJs backed the passenger cars out onto the closer track for boarding, so that passengers wouldn't have to cross tracks to get to them.

Nearly ready for showtime, the two QJs will back the train down to the main Rock Island yard, the head west across the Government Bridge

Lots and lots of people were out along the route - not just fans, either. A whole bunch of kids and presumably their teachers were sitting on the lawn in Wilton, IA, to watch the train go through.

As we roll along through eastern Iowa, Mr. Posner pauses from his duties to enjoy a cup of coffee. Henry Posner III is the chairman of RDC, the parent company of IAIS and owner of the two steamers. (DJH Photo)

A few of the Iowa City yards that you don't usually get - from the rear observation car of a westbound passenger train! There's a fair bit more power than usual sitting around.

Looking forward again, we see the train emerging from the west end of the yard and coming to a stop at the old Iowa City depot. Conveniently, this also places the two QJs up on the Clinton St. crossing, near a fire hydrant.

Since they figured we'd be stopped for about half an hour, they allowed us off the train to use the watering as a photo op. Very convenient, since there was some concern we wouldn't get a runby later in the day.

Having let those passengers off that wanted to stay in Iowa City, the rest of us rode out to turn the train on the wye with the CRANDIC at Yocum Connection. Here we are headed back on the east leg of the wye. (DJH Photo)

As it turned out, the crew managed to squeeze in a run-by for the passengers at Atalissa.
