Definition of Car Types

  • 5-6-5 Sleeper - 5 roomettes, 6 double bed compartments, and another 5 roomettes (C&O design)
  • 5-6-X Sleeper - 5 roomettes, 6 double bed compartments, and open sections vestibule end (converted from 5-6-5s)
  • 5-6 Sleeper - 5 roomettes and 6 double bedroom compartments
  • 10-6 Sleeper - 10 roomettes and 6 double bedroom compartments
  • 16 Sleeper - 16 open sections

Notes:

  • SCD stands for "Servicio de Coches Dormitorio y Conexos, S. A. de C. V." Ownership and operation of sleepers, diners, and lounges was transferred from NdeM to SCD on 30 Oct 1974. Originally from a post by Jim Peters on the MexList discussion group, message no. 12250 (24 Jan 2008), and found on Don Strack's Utah Rails site.
