indeed Dave, you said it well.
=C2=A0What color is "sky blue"? Depends on where you live, the season, the =
time of day, the atmospherics....
Unless someone has an UNFADED paint chip, any color discussion is relative.=
=C2=A0 Ever try to match your house colors? And the shops often had locally=
mixed paints when equipment was shopped. Today it's a little easier with t=
he color-matching technology. But you still need a valid sample. And photog=
raph and ink colors vary from manufacturer, as do hobby paints.=C2=A0 So th=
e question is what is "good enough"?=C2=A0
Now I would go so far as to say that the hobby manufacturers have resources=
available to them (such as the Society) to at least get the colors close t=
o the as-built or re-built paint jobs.=C2=A0 No excuse for painting an S-2 =
in KC Orange instead of the imitation gold (aka yellow). LOL

=C2=A0 Yes Jim, you draw a very broad brush here.
The challenge forst is to determine date lines, models discussed and use th=
e real colour terms, and not generic 'modern' jargon.

There has been countless clarifications on this very group of D&RGW by lear=
ned historians and real time railroad men. Search for them and you will fin=
d the answers. Unfortunately most will have broken photo links as places li=
ke DPL have wholesale tossed away their old catalog and URL links.

The assertion that Don Stracks' utahrails can be criticised or needs furthe=
r effort isn't warranted. It is and has been a masterpiece of historical va=
lue for his own and everyones needs for a long time now.

Then you appear to assume models of locomotives/ power are all painted the =
same is in error. Many types were delivered over 2-3 year (at most) periods=
and the D&RGW seems to have been very adaptive and versatile, quickly modi=
fying specs when conditions suggested they should.=20

The RGM&HS web site, sadly missing in action, had many tables that included=
membership added articles and items. Bob Webber was to be congratulated fo=
r what he developed, but sadly it did not keep being updated as knowledge w=
as improved or cnfirmed.=20
Luckily I captured and converted a lot of this data for my own use to sprea=
dsheet formats.

Thus I can confirm for you that the earliest diesels purchased from 1941 to=
1946 were black with 'Imitation Gold Duco (yellow)' paint schemes. The 'ye=
llow' is a non-specific reference generalism.

Earliest GPs and SDs straddled this and next variation, for instance came a=
long in 2 different shades- being Orange Duco (Aspen Gold) in 1949 through =
new or repainting, I'm not certain of which. There is colour proof of this =
also. (ref Jim Eagers advice).

#100 in 1949 was still wearing it's original paint scheme but had been sub-=
lettered with #7000 with 3-4 inch numerals on the lower cab front. This pic=
was on drgw.net.
The invective you show for others is simply reproducing the errors in your =
own posts.

I have a hard time relating to yellow and orange and grande gold. I know th=

& 9s. They were the same yellow when delivered Its time someone puts an act=
ual color samples on their website Utah rails! Yellow can mean a hundred sh=

bay hoppers for an example. No f units ever had orange until maybe the end.=
Grande gold is a long way from orange! I defy anyone to show me geeps, swi=

de gold and slight variations are Everywhere not yellow and not orange.

Show me!!!!!!

They were the same yellow when delivered Its time someone puts an actual color samples on their website Utah rails! Yellow can mean a hundred shades and orange wasn't used until much later and only on freight cars. 3-4 bay hoppers for an example. No f units ever had orange until maybe the end. Grande gold is a long way from orange! I defy anyone to show me geeps, switchers, f units most sds and with orange like the crayon color orange! Grande gold and slight variations are Everywhere not yellow and not orange.<br clear="none">
