As Bob observed, the GP9 is not the first Ath Genesis engine Athearn has released for D&RGW, maybe hood unit yes, but Athearn Genesis has released F3's, F7's and F9's in multiple paint schemes. I've purchased the single stripe F3's F9's and an F7 phase II. They are all gorgeous diesels. The Challenger IIRC, while Genesis, is isn't what I'd call a primary usage or mainstream D&RGW steam engine. Weren't they only active for a few years during WWII and were sold off as quickly as possible after the war (being of UP design)?

This is the first Rio Grande engine that Athearn released in their Genesis line to date, I say good job Athearn!
I will be ordering a couple with Tsunami sound.
