Yeah, it happened rather often during the summer tourist
season. In 1958 and 1959 I worked off
and on on a signal gang in the Salt Lake area, including the Rio Grande
depot. During the week we=92d see
occasional cars delivered by the UP to the DRG for movement out on the
Prospector. On Friday we=92d take #8 back
to Grand Junction or Glenwood and there usually would be two or three Pullm=
from a tour group on the rear end behind the dome-observation. They were s=
et off at Grand Jct. to move on #2
through the Royal Gorge to the MOP at Pueblo.=20
One of the tour guides told me they =93came from back east and then down
from Montana (presumably on the UP from Butte) to Salt Lake.=94 While the =
occupants were touring Saltair and
Temple Square the cars would be delivered to the Grande and tacked onto #8.

In the mid-sixties I was working out of the main office in
Denver and frequently went to Salt Lake on business, riding #7-8. I rememb=
er an infrequent foreign car, but
usually the markers were brought up by a pair of piggyback flats. They did=
n=92t add anything aesthetically, but
we liked =91em because they dampened the usual bouncing and yawing of the s=
when it was the last car on the train. Mike
