We greatly appereciate the time and effort anyone can give to contribute pictures to us. However, with the site growing so big, we have found that we need to make some limits somewhere. So here what we have decided what we do and don't want from contributors.
We really need locomotives that North Western disposed of before the Union Pacific merger. We started taking pictures one year after the merger so we don't have any prior to that. That also means that we need pictures of locomotives painted to UP in 1995 and first half of 1996, while still in CNW colors.
We do not want depots or any other structures. The only building we have on the site is the headquarters and we feel that our pictures are sufficient. Erich Russ offers a broad selection of structures on his website, The Chicago & North Western Page.
For freight cars, we only want one pictures of each type of car in each paint scheme. For locomotives repainted to Union Pacific, we only put one picture of each unit on the site, so we really don't need those. However, if you have UP 5530 or 5981, we'd really like to use them because they have been destroyed. For commuter cars, we don't need any more of the bilevels at IRM. Nor do we need any still currently in use on Metra. But, if you have any others in CNW paint, or Metra's in the 7600's, we can use those.
As for the where are they now section, we only want one picture of each unit for its new company. We will take units operating for more than one new company. For instance, CNW 6515 became SP 8608 and is now UP 4634. We can use both the SP and the UP. If you think you have an ex-CNW unit but you're not sure, e-mail f40c@drgw.net and we may be able to help.
For normal units that were on the roster at the merger, we typically limit each unit to a roster shot from each side and a nose shot and a rear shot. Interesting pictures in addition to those will be considered too.
We don't want to discourage anyone from contributing, so don't take what we just said the wrong way. We do greatly appreciate anyone who takes the time to send us pictures. But by telling you this, we can reduce the number of pictures that are sent to us that we won't use. Even despite all this, we still may not be able to use every picture that is sent to us - life can be a pain that way. So if you still want to contribute pictures to us after reading all of this, e-mail cabbage@drgw.net and we will tell you where to send the images to.
