| Thank you for checking out my web page. My name is Dan and I am a third year student at the University of Iowa, a Simpsons guru, and an active rail enthusiast. I am a native of the Chicagoland area, born in Winfield, raised in Glen Ellyn, then Elmhurst, where I still live while not in college. I am a graduate of York High School, in Elmhurst. I already miss the Illinois Central trains rumbling past the building and disrupting classes. All in all, I still consider Illinois to be my home, but Iowa isn't too bad. On the plus side, I get to drive a bus! If you are interested in finding out more about me, then check out my personal home page. | ![]() Yours truly. |
![]() The Iowa Interstate Railroad - It's no North Western, but I won't complain. |
My interest in railroads began several years ago, when my friend Brad Logan, f40c@drgw.net, showed me his stack of Trains Magazines. Little did he realize that he had created a monster. I developed an extreme love for the Chicago & North Western System, even though I cannot recall seeing them in action. They were absorbed by the Microsoft of the railroads, Union Pacific, before my railroad interests began. However, I feel obligated to help keep the memory of the North Western alive. Long live Yellow & Green. |
| You may be wondering the logic behind my editing name. I highly applaud Amtrak's intelligent thinking. No wait, here me out : In a very practical, yet creative move, Amtrak solved three problems in one move by de-engining some F40PH's. They solved their baggage space problem, were able to add an operational cab on the opposite end of trains, and have reduced locomotive maintenance costs as well. These cars, which are essentialy cabbed baggage cars, have been dubbed "cabbage" cars, hence my name. | ![]() Amtrak 90200, possibly one of the smartest things they've ever done. |
